This is definitely the time of the year when my skin needs that extra dose of nutrition to stay smooth. The right diet is essential but so are the right skincare products as well. Facial oils are my favourites. They are real winter skin savers!

Why to use facial oil?

Oil goes into deeper layers of skin than creams and acts as a prime carrier to deliver other active ingredients. So applying a face oil before your fave moisturizing cream it lets ingredients absorb more deeply for even better effects. That is something you can feel immediately the next morning.

I apply a couple of oil drops under my night cream. The skin absorbs the oil, but not straight away. As the oil plumps the skin up and protects from water loss the skin looks nice and smooths when I wake up. 

There are plenty of options on the market and I'm sure everyone can find there their own favourite facial oil. I have picked up my fave oils which I will introduce to you. The first one is Radiance Oil from Supermood's Youth Glo collection. 

Supermood is holistic beauty brand from Finland. The ingredients are from the pure Finnish nature. In this oil there are rose hip and lingonberry seed oil. It is said to rejuvenate and nourish the skin and that's what it does. 2 drops are enough for the whole face and 1 drop for neck. 

This Youth Glo oil has a pleasant mild fresh scent, which is a great plus. To be honest I don't why any reason why I wouldn't buy another bottle when this is finished.

(FI) Nyt on se aika vuodesta kun ainakin oma ihoni kaipaa kunnon annoksen ravinteita, jotta se pysyy pehmeänä. Oikeanlainen ruokavalio on tietysti tärkeää, mutta niin on myös oikeanlaisten ihonhoitotuotteiden valinta. Kasvoöljyt ovat mun suosikkeja. Todellisia talvi-ihn pelastajia!

Mitä varten kannattaa käyttää kasvoöljyä?

Öljy menee paljon syvemmälle ihoon kuin voide ja pystyy kuljettamaan mukanaan muita ainesosia. Näin ollen kasvoöljyn sively nassulle ennen kosteusvoidetta edesauttaa sen imeytymistä syvemmälle ja parantamaan voiten vaikutusta. Tämä on sellaista jonka huomaa kyllä välittömästi seuraavana aamuna.

Mä lisään muutaman tipan öljyä yövoiteen alle. Öljy imeytyy ihoon, tosin ei ihan välittömästi. Koska öljyllä on 'pullistava' vaikutus ja se myös suojelee kosteuden haihtumista, näyttää iho aamulla heti paremmalta ja tuntuu pehmeältä.

(FI) Kauppojen hyllyt on täynnä erilaisia kasvoöljyvaihtoehtoja, joista varmasti jokainen löytää suosikkinsa. Ajattelin esitellä tässä blogissa omat suosikkini ja aloitetaan heti kotimaisella Supermoodin Radiance Oil'lla, joka kuuluu Youth Glo -tuotesarjaan.

Plussana vielä miellyttävä mieto ja raikas tuoksu. Enpä löydä mitään syytä miksen ostaisi tätä öljyä toista pulloa kun tämä ensimmäinen tulee käytettyä loppuun.

Have you been to Islington, London?

Over the years I have several times intoduced or at least shown some pics of Islington. It's been my favourite place in London for more than 10 years now. It's like own little town inside the massive metropole.

(FI) Vuosien varrella olen varmasti useampaankin otteeseen kertonut Islingtonista tai ainakin näyttänyt kuvia siitä. Tämä kaupunginosa on ollut lempparipaikkani Lontoossa jo yli 10 vuoden ajan. Se on kuin pieni oma kaupunki jättimäisen metropolin sisällä.

The atmosphere in Islington is lively. Camden Passage is absolutely something not to be missed while in Islington. It's a small alley with antique shops and other boutiques. During the weekends street stalls are set up here selling a mix of antiques and collectables, including jewelry, toys, clothing and books.

(FI) Islingtonissa on mukavan elävä ja vilkas ilmapiiri. Camden Passagea ei kannata missata. Se on kapea, pieni kuja pullollaan kivoja antiikki kauppoja ja muita putiikkeja. Viikonloppuisin kujalla on myös ulkona myyntipöytiä ja tarjolla on sekitus antiikkia ja keräilykohteita, mm. koruja, leluja, vaatteita ja kirjoja.

Islington started as a small village with parish church, a manor house and cottages around green. Then it became a overcrowded north London suburb, but during the last couple of decades it'a been a neighborhood with high-class status. There are now plenty of trendy gastropubs, wine bars, restaurants and boutiques. In my opinion Islington has it all. Basically there's all you need.

(FI) Islington oli alunperin pieni kylä, jossa kirkkoa, kartanoa ja mökkejä ympäröi viheriö. Siten siitä tuli ahtaasti asutto pohjoislontoolainen lähiö, mutta parin viimeisen vuosikymmenen aikana siitä on kehittynyt korkeatasoinen kaupunginosa. Sieltä löytyy lukuisia trendikkäitä gastropubeja, viinibaareja, ravintoloita ja kauppoja. Mielestäni Islingtonissa on kaikki oleellinen ja vähän enemmän.

  

The main streets in Islington are Upper Street and Essex Road. The later one is more residential while Upper Street is full of fascinating interior decor, fashion and beauty stores, and there's Ottolenghi as well. Perfect place to stop for coffee/tea and delicious meringues as well as for a proper lunch.

(FI) Islingtonin pääkadut ovat Upper Street ja Essex Road. Jälkimmäisessä on enemmän asuntoja, kun taas Upper Street on täynnä ihastuttavia sisustus-, muoti- ja kosmetiikkaputiikkeja. Niin ja siellä on myös kuuluisa Ottolenghi. Loistava paikka pysähtyä nauttimaan kuppi kahvia tai teetä ja suussa sulavia marenkileivoksia. Paikassa voi myös syödä ihan kunnon lounaan.

Islington might not boast as much green space as some of London's neighborhoods, but there are some nice parks. One of my favourite park is the small Islington Green, which is located in the beginnins of both the Upper Street and Essex Road and makes a triangle in between these two streets.

The other nice and quiet park is behind St Mary's Church. The pics above are both from there. It's funny how London is blooming all year round, isn't it?

(FI) Vaikka Islingtonissa ei olekkaan niin paljon viheralueita kuin joissain muissa Lontoon kaupunginosissa, löytyy sieltäkin kivoja puistoja. Yksi oma suosikkipuistoni on Islington Green, joka sijaitsee muodostaa kolmion Upper Streetin ja Essex Roadin alussa.

Toinen mukava ja rauhallinen puisto löytyy St Mary -kirkon takaa. Yläpuolella olevat kuvat ovat sieltä. Uskomatonta mutta totta - Lontoossa kukkii koko vuoden ympäri!

The borough is also home for Arsenal football club.

Warm & Spicy Apple Drink

I'm not a huge fan of mulled wine. It's often too sweet or too strong and kind of stale. But the other day when visiting a friend of mine and her family, she had made this warm apple drink which was so delicious and fresh tasting. I decided to prepare it for this Xmas.  

Warm & spicy apple drink

1 l apple juice (unsweetend)

1,5 cinnamon stick

1-2 tsp cloves

3-5 pc star anise

1 tsp ginger powder

1/2 tsp allspice (whole ones)

1/2 orange (freshly squeesed)

Heat the apple juice in a saucepand along with the spices. Bring to the boil for 5-7 minutes. Add the orange juice. Serve it hot!

(FI) En ole mikään suuri glögin ystävä. Glögi on helposti liian makeaa tai liian vahvaa tai joyenkin tunkkaista. Mutta muutama päivä sitten kyläillessäni ystäväni ja hänen perheensä luona, ihastuin tähän ystäväni tekemään herkulliseen ja raikkaan makuiseen lämpimään omenajuomaan tai siis glögiin. Päätin valmistaa sitä myös itse nyt joulun aikaan. 

Lämmin & mausteinen omenajuoma

1 l omenamehua (makeuttamatonta)

1,5 kanelitanko

1-2 tl neilikkaa

3-5 kpl tähtianista

1 tl inkiväärijauhetta

1/2 tl maustepippuria (kokonaisia)

1/2 oappelsiini (puristettu mehu)

Lämmitä omenamehu kattilassa yhdessä mausteiden kanssa. Anna kiehua 5-7 minuuttia. Lisää lopuksi appelsiinimehu. Tarjoa kuumana!

Iced-up Balaton

It's not often that Lake Balaton is totally frozen, but this winter it has happened. It looks pretty amazing. The northern wind has brought tons of ice to the shore.

Any New Year's Resolutions?

The weather in Finland has been changing almost on daily basis. From black & wet to snow & frosty to rainy & foggy... and it seems to keep on changing. Actually, it great to get all the possible winter scenes & temperatures during my short visit to remember how the winter really feels in this country.

Any new year's resolutions? 

I'm pretty eager to start the year with new resolutions, but somehow always tend to forget them in a week or so. Mainly all my resolutions have been about becoming a better person, living healthier life, loosing weight, starting a new hobby etc. This year I decided to toss all those lists away and just challange my niece in a "thing" which I will reveal asap - dependng on if she accepts the challange.

Well, my bucket list is still pretty long, but that's another thing.

London Calling

 Arrived to Luton Airport last night, took the train to St Pancras, continued by Northern line to Angel and arrived to Islington.

Today the sky is grey but it's not raining, it's a bit windy but that doesn't matter. Let's go out to the patio.

Winter Pastels

 Everyone's talking about spring already and it's only February… No doubt spring is the season that gives hope. I made a collage of some beautiful items in soft scheme that I found in the new HM Home collection. Soft powder pastels are spring-ish, of course, but they are also perfect for winter when the days start to be longer than dark nights.

Kaikki puhuvat jo keväästä ja nyt on vasta helmikuu… Epäilemättä kevät on toivoa antava vuodenaika. Tein kollaasin HM Homelta löytämistäni kauniista teemaan sopivista tuotteista. Pehmeät, puuteriset pastellit ovat toki keväisiä, mutta sopivat myös niin töydellisesti talveen, varsinkin kun päivät ovat jo pitenemään päin.

I love the combo of soft pastels and rough industrial style.

Pehmeiden pastellien ja rouhean teollisuustyylin yhdistelmä on vaan niin upea!
