Home in Marais

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

I just saw this absolutely gorgeous home in German Schöner Wohnen magazine. It belongs to architect Margaux Beja and her husband Thomas Pujol. They renovated this 52m2 flat dated back to 1769 and located in Marais in Paris in 2013.

You can find more pics by clicking:

ps. these pics are pinned from here!

Näin tämän ihastuttavan pariisilaiskodin saksalaisessa Schöner Wohnen sisustuslehdessä. Marais'ssa sijaitseva vanha asunto remontoitiin kodiksi viime vuonna.

ps. pinnasin kuvat täältä!

Annick Goutal

Sunday, September 1, 2013

Oh, no! My Eau du Sud by Annick Goutal is almost finished!

Eau du Sud is a citrus fragrance made of bergamot, mandarine, verbena, peppermint, basil, patchouli and oakmoss.
It was created in 1997 to memorize Annick's travels to Provence and Tuscany.

Luckily I have another bottle of AG scent! It's still in a grey purse...but not for a long.
Last time in Paris I bought Eau du Charlotte, which Annick created for her stepdaughter Charlotte in 1982.
It's an interesting sweet floral fragrance made of blackcurrant buds, mimosa, cocoa and vanilla.
I don't usually go to a flowery scent, but as mentioned before this one has an interesting twist.

(if you're wondering what that pink stripe is, it's a reflection of my shirt, sorry!)

Got some samples as well.

Merci-Merci

Monday, June 24, 2013

Merci on 111 Boulevard Beaumarchais in Paris is a huge yet cosy lifestyle store.
Even the entrance with a courtyard is interesting - an old Fiat, a bath with a wood-heated water system, lots of decoration...

Upstairs there are furniture and other interior & decoration items. On the ground level there're clothes, shoes and bags including new & vintage by Chloe, Isabel Marant, Stella McCartney...
The profit of this Marie-France &  Bernard Cohen's established company goes to charity.

Absolutely worth a visit while in Paris!

Pierre Herme

Sunday, June 23, 2013

"Oh yes, macarons. Those crisp but chewy, light-as-air meringue cookies.
Not the big, hulking Italian confections that are often made with coconut.
French macarons are different. They are delicate yet persnickety. A feat of mixing, folding, stirring, and timing.
A delightful combination of powdered sugar, finely ground almonds, and egg whites and not much else,
save for the luxuriously creamy ganache or buttercream filling that holds the two cookies together.
Ferm but tender, shiny yet ridged, with ethereally light shells and heavy middles, they're miniature studies of contests - and deliciousness."
Pierre Herme on 185 rue de Vaugirard.

"In Paris there're 2 kinds of people:those who think Pierre Herme makes the best macaroons and those who believe Laduree's are the best. What many people don't know, even ardent macaron worshippers, is that Pierre Herme once worked for Laduree, the traditional salon de the with roots back to 1862."

"Pierre Herme became consulting pastry chef at Laduree, opening the magnificent Champs-Elysees location. But ultimately, he was a little too rock and roll for the traditional outfit."

"If you ask me, both Pierre Herme and Laduree have their merits. Pierre Herme's macarons are still made by hand; Laduree's are assembled by machines. But Laduree's macaroons and boxes are also less espencive and the experience is more transcending.
Brand and taste, preference and prejudices, the debate rages on: whose macaroons are the perfect balance of crisp to chewy to melty?
Who has the most sublime flavour combinations?
Who has the richest ganache?
Whose are the prettiest?
Ultimately, it's a quiestion that's nearly impossible to answer."

Amy Thomas - the author of 'Paris My Sweet-A Year In The City of Light (And Dark Chocolate)'

I love Amy's book! It's a real treasure map of Paris & New York for all sweet-tooth.

I've always been a huge Laduree fan. Had a chance in the beginning of this month while in Paris to visit Pierre Herme's at 185 rue de Vaugirard and taste some of his funky macarons.
Loved the Infiniment Jasmin & Veloute Banane (shown in the pic)!

Btw, later bought also some divine chocolate at Pierre Herme's 39 avenue de l'Opera store.

ps. there're several locations all around Paris to get
Pierre Herme's macarons.

Eating Out In Paris

Monday, June 10, 2013

The French cuisine is simply breathtaking. Had fabulous dinners there last week, here're some examples:

Brasserie Bofinger
Bofinger is the oldest brasserie in Paris, opened in 1864.
The place is famous for its seafood. The scampi starter with avocado mousse and orange sauce was tasty and delicious.
Ordered also the sea platter with shrimps and lobster.
Fantastic!
For a dessert had creme brûlée and afterwards green tea.
The Art Deco glass dome is spectacular!
5-7, rue de la Bastille

Chez Georges
This was my first time at Chez Georges and definitely not the last one - the place was absolutely marvellous!
It's also fashion designer Isabel Marant's favourite brasseries. She has said that every time she goes there she thinks about Claude Chabrol's movies.

Chez Georges is a typical French brasserie with very good - and I would say interesting food.
Had some herring and potato salad to start with and then grilled turbot with sauce Bearnaise - perfect!
Enjoyed a selection of French cheese before going to a slice of millefeuille which was the most delicious millefeuille ever!
Had a table reservation at 7.30pm, by 9pm the place was full, mostly locals.

Brasserie Lipp
Brasserie Lipp was founded in 1880.
My menu:
Anchovies with potato salad
Sole meunier
Roquefort
Millefeuille

Fantastic!

Have A Lunch In Paris!

Here's a list of some places where I had lunch in Paris last week.

Les Deux Abeilles
Chèvre pie with green salad, a glass of home-made ginger lemonade and pear-rasberry crumble with cream.
Perfect!
The place has such a typical French atmosphere.

Laduree
Laduree is not just macarons - they serve lunch as well.
Plain omelett with green salad and afterwards my favourite macaroons: orange blossom, liquorice, vanilla and salted caramel.
I also had some violet scented black tea.
I just love this place!

Bought some violet & orange blossom tea to take home.

Laduree
21, rue Bonaparte, 6e

ps. Laduree on rue Royale is closed for renovation.

Mariage Freres

Saturday brunch at Mariage Freres on rue du Bourg-Tibourg.

Le Classique includes fresh squeezed orange juice, brioche toast served with Gelees extra de the, scrambles eggs with seasoned with Sel Matcha, grilled shrimps skewer, smoked salmon spring rolls and strawberry cake.

Rainbow Spirit includes juice, toast and dessert as above and salmon tartar, tea-flavoured wasabi-avocado coulis, lotus chips, celeriac, mizuna greens, pink radish and ground cherry.

I chose the orange blossom tea.
As a big tea drinker couldn't just walk away without buying some tea to take home: Earl Grey Imperial, Earl Grey French, Sakura green tea and Paque green tea.

I will tell more about the teas little bit later!

Paris, Paris, Paris

Paris is not just beautiful buildings but also full of stunning and sometimes even funny details.

(I guess a Finnish fashion designer who btw is the main men's wear designer for Givenchy, lives behind these massive red doors in Marais...)
Makes me smile!

 Printemps Haussmann

I can highly recommend Hotel Eden if you like walking (I don't mean the stairs, there's a lift!) but the 15. district is a bit far from the main attractions. Of course, you can commute by metro (the nearest station is Vaugirard) or just take a taxi.

June 06

Friday, June 7, 2013

Had a perfect bday in Paris!
It was all about...
...some macarons...
...some shopping...

...some champagne...

...and more shopping!
After a wonderful dinner at Chez Georges had a walk in a nice & warm Parian weather.
(the temperature was 27C in the afternoon and still warm at night).

Blues Of Paris

Thursday, June 6, 2013

There're so many different shades of blues in Paris:

 The sky...
 ...a car...
...and the irises in Tuileries Garden.

Yesterday was such a perfect day. Hopefully today's a good one too - it's my birthday!
