Have you been to Islington, London?

Tuesday, January 10, 2017

Over the years I have several times intoduced or at least shown some pics of Islington. It's been my favourite place in London for more than 10 years now. It's like own little town inside the massive metropole.

****

The atmosphere in Islington is lively. Camden Passage is absolutely something not to be missed while in Islington. It's a small alley with antique shops and other boutiques. During the weekends street stalls are set up here selling a mix of antiques and collectables, including jewelry, toys, clothing and books.

Islington started as a small village with parish church, a manor house and cottages around green. Then it became a overcrowded north London suburb, but during the last couple of decades it'a been a neighborhood with high-class status. There are now plenty of trendy gastropubs, wine bars, restaurants and boutiques. In my opinion Islington has it all. Basically there's all you need.

The main streets in Islington are Upper Street and Essex Road. The later one is more residential while Upper Street is full of fascinating interior decor, fashion and beauty stores, and there's Ottolenghi as well. Perfect place to stop for coffee/tea and delicious meringues as well as for a proper lunch.

****

Islington might not boast as much green space as some of London's neighborhoods, but there are some nice parks. One of my favourite park is the small Islington Green, which is located in the beginnins of both the Upper Street and Essex Road and makes a triangle in between these two streets.

The other nice and quiet park is behind St Mary's Church. The pics above are both from there. It's funny how London is blooming all year round, isn't it?

****

The borough is also home for Arsenal football club.

Arsenal jalkapalloseura on myös täältä päin.

Next time in London take the northen line tube to Angel and have a walk in Islington.

More about Islington here!

Seuraavalla kerralla kun olet Lontoossa, ota musta 'northern line'n' metro Angeliin ja tee pieni kävelykierros Islingtonissa.

Lisää Islingtonia täällä!

One of the best beaches ever seen
- long sandy beach, no trash, no hotels
 No hotels but beach houses

 The end of the beach
- pier in Marine del Rey
Some balance exercises in Marina del Rey
Walked back along the boardwalk next to the beach
admiring the beach houses
and envying the people living there...

A Walk In Budapest

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Looks like somewhere else than in Hungary
but yes, this is in Budapest
.
Had a 4-hour-walk in Budapest
in a great weather on Sunday
.
Walked throught some dodgy districts
where felt like being totally in a different country!
- didn't dare to take the camera out of bag
in every corner...
This pic is a very neutral one,
taken in Jószefváros
.
Interesting!

Finally had a chance to see the new houses
of Corvin sétány (= Corvin Promenade)
- this building is Cordia City Garden
- quite nice!
.
But the view from the houses
is not so pleasant...
. Cordia Premier House
- the whole Corvin project still takes some time,
it's supposed to be finished by 2020
.
Entrance to the Corvin Mall
.
Corvin Shopping Mall
- light & spacious!

Autumn In Budapest

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Beautiful sunny autumn day in Budapest today
.
Already some yellow leaves on the ground
- bet that nobody will brush them away
before next summer...
.
Quite a small but handy car for police!
.
Not exactly Brooklin Bridge nor Golden Gate
but the most beautiful bridge in Budapest
- Chain Bridge
.
Anyone has an idea which country has this flag???
.
