healthy breakfast

Back to my favourite breakfast - berry smoothie! This time I skipped adding banana to the mixture and instead of that used Greek yoghurt and coconut drink to make it more liquid. I love berries and now the season is on and there're so much delicious, organic blueberries, blackberries and raspberries at my local farmers market.

Berry smoothie

bite of fresh ginger (I used a size of a whole thumb!)
handful of fresh berries: blueberries, blackberries & raspberries
1 tsp turmeric powder
3/4 cup oatmeal
3 tbsp Greek yoghurt
coconut drink (depending on how liquid you want it to be)

All ingredients in to blender for about 10s until the texture is smooth. Pour into glasses, drink straight away or store in fridge.

Suosikkiaamiaiseni on taas täällä - marjasmoothie!

Marjasmoothie

pala tuoretta inkivääriä (käytin koko peukalon koklisen palan)
kourallinen marjoja - mustikoita, karhunvatukoita, vadelmia
1 tl kurkumajauhetta
melkein dl kaurahiutaleita
3 rkl kreikkalaista jogurttia
kookosjuomaa (määrä riippuu siitä kuinka juoksevaa haluat smoothien olevan)

Kaikki ainekset blenderiin noin 10 sekunniksi. Kaada laseihin, juo saman tien tai pistä odottamaan jääkaappiin.

Strawberry Smoothie With Paleo Granola

Monday, September 12, 2016

Smoothie means a kick start for a day for me. I prepare one every morning. What kind of smoothie I make depends on the season and availability of fruit and berries. Now it's the strawberry season in Hunagry (the second season!) so I use strawberries as the main ingredient. The otehr ingredients are the same as usual - banana, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, coconut oil...

What makes this week's smoothies a bit special is the granola on the top. I found banana-chocolate paleo granola at MentesNasi.
This granola is made of:
dates, walnut, pumkin seeds, sunflower seeds, banana, Cavalier chocolate and sesame seeds.

What does 'paleo' mean?
Paleo is a diet that leans on proteins, fruits, vegetables, hralthy fats from nuts, seeds, avocados, olive oil, fish oil and grass-fed meat.

The main health benefits of a paleo diet is that it improves blood lipids and reduces pain from autoimmunity and increases the intake of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

I think that changing some of those foods we're eating to paleo foods already makes a difference in well-being.

My strawberry smoothie

1 banana
a bite of fresh ginger
2 tablespoon chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon lucuma powder
2 teaspoon coconut oil
soyamilk

If you became interested in paleo foods or any other healthy foods you can go and visit MentesNasi or buy straight from their webshop

Why To add Lucuma Powder to Morning Smoothie?

Sunday, August 21, 2016

I have pretty similar type of smoothie every morning. I use lots of berries and fruit depending on the season and what's available in the market place near my home.

There are some ingredients that I always use no matter which berries or fruit I add. Those are chia seeds, ginger, cinnamon & turmeric powder and also lucuma powder.

I use lucuma because it gives a sweet taste, although it's not really needed as the main ingredients of my smoothies are pretty sweet, but it's packed with potassium, iron and zinc as well. Lucuma is a natural sweetener. The fruit itself comes from Peru and it's dried at a low temperature into a nutritious orange-colour powder.

My berry smoothie
  • 2 cups of blackberries
  • 1 banana
  • a bite of fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsp of chia seeds
  • 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon powder
  • 1 tbs od lucuma powder
  • coconut milk
  • some raspberries for garnish

How about blueberry smoothie? Or with red currants
