Andalucian Oranges

Andalucian oranges

Andalucian oranges

The sun and oranges belong to Andalucia. In January the fruit trees are full of oranges. And not just oranges but also other citrus fruit such as mandarins, grape fruit and lemons. Did you know that there are several varieties of oranges? And that there are flowers and fruit in citrus trees at the same time? Of course, sometimes there are more fruit - as at the moment - and sometimes flowers, which are really blooming later in the spring. At that time you can smell the trees even though you wouldn't see any. The fragrance is absolutely alluring.

In Andalucia there are (and for sure in other orange destinations as well) at least three types of oranges. First of all those which are easily eaten (called 'mesa'), secondly those meant for juice  (called 'zumo', often sold in net sacks) and thirdly those which are good for jam and marmalade. Those oranges which you can find growing in city parks and along streets are often super bitter and used only after cooking.

Andalucialaiset appelsiinit

Toki on aikoja jolloin jompia kumpia on enemmän. Varsinainen kukka-aika on keväämmällä. Silloin kyllä huomaa vaikka silmät kiinni onko appelsiinipuita lähettyvillä - kukkien ihana tuoksu on huumaava.

Andaluciassa (ja varmasti myös muuallakin) on ainakin kolmenlaisia appelsiineja - helposti syötäviä appelsiineja (mesa), mehuun tarkoitettuja appelsiineja (zumo, usein valmiiksi verkkopusseissa) ja hilloon soveltuvia appelsiineja. Kaupunkien puistoissa ja katujen varsille istutetut appelsiinit ovat usein niitä todella kirpeitä ja karvaan makuisia, joista valmistetaan brittien suosimaa bitter orange -marmelaadia.

Seville oranges

The parks of Sevilla are full of orange trees. It's hard to avoid stepping on them. Heard that there are 14.000 trees there. Even though the trees are in parks and especially planted, you are free to pick them up, but be prepared that they are pretty sour. These oranges are for bitter orange marmalade and mainly exported to the UK. Brits love bitter orange marmalade!

The flowers of Seville oranges are also picked up and used for essential oils and aromatherapy purposes.

Here's a list of some other type of oranges:
- Blood oranges, which come in different species as well, the main harvest season is quite short starting in the end of January and ending in March
- Naval oranges, those which kind of have a mini orange inside, they are sweet and easy to peel
- Mandarins, minicitrus with lot of seeds
- Clementines, which is a hybrid of mandarin and orange, sweet and easy to peel
- Satsumas, a seedless and thin peeled hybrid of mandarin and clementine
-Valencian oranges, which are perfect for juice, sweet and have thin peels
-Bergamot oranges, which are used for Earl Grey tea to give that lovely and unique fragrance & taste

Sevillan appelsiinit

Puita on kuulema 14.000.

Sevillan appelsiinien lisäksi on olemassa mm:
-valencian appelsiineja, sopivat hyvin puristettavaksi mehuksi, makeita, ohuehkot kuoret

Nutrition value of an orange

There are hardly any calories in oranges, but a good dose of vitamin C, fibres and antioxhidants. In one orange you will get 98mg vitamin C and 4,4g of fibre. It's good to eat oranges to improve immunity, avoid a flu and keep the skin elastic and youthful.

It's obvious that freshly picked oranges in Spain taste quite different from the ones transported and sold in Northern Europe.

Last time when I wasscanned to check if my body has enough different minerals and vitamins, the result was that my system is lacking vitamin C. Now I have been eating 2 big oranges per day. Let's see if this has had a possitive effect and can be seen in the next scan. Btw, Pia from Inzenter will be back in Fuengirola to do Bioresonance scanning 29. January - 2. February.

Appelsiinien ravintoarvo

Inzenterin Pia on muuten taas Fuengirolassa tekemässä bioresonanssimittauksia 29.1.-2.2.

btw, here's a link to my earlier post called Orange Box  and here more info about vitamin C!

Orange Is The New Black

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Let's continue with the colour orange! Never seen the TV version (still living without Netflix), but had heard the title several times, and now finally got the book. Not amazing literature but very interesting true story about the life at a women's prison in the USA. Piper Kerman was sent to prison for 15 months for drug money laundering, which she had done 10 years ago in her 20's.

There was her interview by Sharon Cotliar on More Magazine and after reading it decided to read the book as well. Here're some parts of the interview:

People will surprise you
"On my first day at prison I was really, really scared. When I was put into the unit in which I would be living, the women began to approach me. They said things like, 'Do you need some toothpaste?' 'Do you need some shower shoes? There's wicked foot fungus in those showers.' 'Do you want me to make you a cup of instant coffee? You are quaking.' The last thing I expected on my first day of prison was to experience kindness at the hands of my fellow prisoners."

There are worst things than failing
"As I think about all the things that I've done since I came home from prison, any time that I was really, reallyscared and really afraid to fail or to look stupid, ot that it would be a disaster, I could sit and say, 'You know what? No matter what happens, it can't be worse than prison. Let's go for it."

Never wear orange
"I do like the color of orange. Before I went to prison, I would wear it. I think it's an energetic, creative color. I do not wear it any longer."

Piper Kerman lives now in Brooklyn with her husband and son. She is working on a new book about the criminal justice system.

PS. Orange for nails - June by Chanel.

PPSS. I lost wi-fi at home last Friday...seems like nobody knows the reason for it... The whole apartment is based on wi-fi connection...

Orange is vibrant. It's hot, healthy, fruity and engaging.
People usually love it or hate it - what about you?

Orange Box

Sunday, August 18, 2013

It wasn't easy to find. I wanted to have it in the original orange color with silver details, and in the narrow version.

Everything looked fine in London...except the size. The nice sales assistant said it was too big for me as my wrists are pretty small, but unfortunately they didn't have it smaller at that moment...Finally found it in Hermes boutique at Munich Airport!
Click H in silver- and palladium-plates orange enamel in size PM.  .

 Click and it opens!

There're two options with the sizes: PM is smaller (diameter: 6cm) and GM bigger (diameter: 6,5cm).
