Flower Bouquet Workshop

Sunday, January 31, 2016

Mihaela from Flower Me is organizing flower bouquet workshops. I'm so happy that I had a chance to join the workshop yesterday. It was so interesting and inspirational. Who wouldn't love to work with beautiful flowers?

I almost never buy ready-made bouquets as I find them ever so often pretty boring. I like to pick up flowers I like at that moment depending on my mood, which colors I prefer at that moment etc. Of course a punch of monochromatic tulips in an Aalto vase is always stylish.

Our aim was to make airy, fresh looking bouquets from fresh-cut, organic flowers in warm colors such as red, orange, yellow and pink.  It was a challenge for me as I'm so stick with monochromatic white flowers. Here are some tips what Mihaela gave when choosing flowers for a bouquet. There are four basic types of flowers: mass, line, filler and form flowers.

Mass flowers - those ones that you notice at first like roses, tulips, daisies and sunflowers.

Line flowers - those ones that break the surface of a bouquet and make an airy feeling, such as gladiolus, delphiniums, snapdragons, tuberose, veronica and curly willow.

Filler flowers - those ones that fill the empty spaces and add texture to the bouquet.

Form flowers - those ones that impose their distinctive shapes on the eye.

6 simple rules to keep your flowers fresh and happy-looking

Find the right vase
Trim the stems
Trim excess leaves
Spray them
Keep them away from heat
Sing to them

ps. when it comes to flowers I can't just pick one or two photos but a plenty of them!

Thank you, Mihaela, for the lovely workshop!

Zara Home - Greige & Spring Colors

Thursday, January 28, 2016

Couldn't resist picking up some delightful items at Zara Home.
Greige is my all time favourite in decor. The colourful pieces are so perfect while waiting for spring to come, aren't they?

There're 2 Zara Homes in Budapest - one is at Fashion Street in the city center and the other one is at Arena Plaza shopping mall. It's worth checking both of them as the variety of items differs a bit.

Tea Time

Monday, January 25, 2016

"Uplift everybody and uplift yourself."

Great start for Monday - a cup (or a total pot!) of Ayurvedic spice infusion. This Yogi Tea Classic includes cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves & black pepper. Nice refreshing taste.

The essence of tea: Comfort and abundance.

Have a nice Monday!

Iced-up Balaton

Sunday, January 24, 2016

It's not often that Lake Balaton is totally frozen, but this winter it has happened. It looks pretty amazing. The northern wind has brought tons of ice to the shore.

Have a nice Sunday!

Took some pics of Balaton in summer, later in summer, oh, these ones are also summer time pics, and in December 2015.

Antique Market

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

There's a small Sunday market for old stuff at the recently renovated market hall between Klauzal ter & Akacfa utca. They are marketing it as an antique & design market, but it's mainlu just old stuff. You might make a bargain there if lucky!

It's open on Sundays between 10am-5pm.

Wednesday, January 6, 2016

Time to say goodbye to Xmas & pack all festive decoration into boxes to wait for next holiday season. This b&w Finnish home had a hint of red for this Xmas.

January is a pretty dark month so some additional light is warmly welcome.

Just got an email from Zara Home about their new home fragrances for winter 2016. Scents of cedar wood (black), Sicilian fig (brown) and orange blossom (blue). There're home sprays, candles, soaps & freshener sticks in the Cabinet collection.

You might want to go straight into the spring-ish spirit with flowery & fruity Versailles collection. Gorgeous scents of red berries (pink), tuberose bouquet (turquoise) & wild bamboo (green).
