La Contessa

Monday, August 29, 2011

 The hotel manager told that
the building dates back to 17th century
- after the World War it was converted
to a hotel
and in 2009 it was opened as La Contessa Castle Hotel

My guess is that during the regime
the place was in rather bad condition
and divided into small spaces in Soviet style.
Probably the building was empty
for several years after regime
and finally sold - most likely -
to a foreign person or company
who made the it as it is today:
gorgeous palace

- the place is really made with style,
good materials, harmonious colours
- very much like being in Italy or Spain!

What makes the hotel Hungarian is the staff,
especially in the restaurant
-sometimes feels like being in Faulty Towers...
but that's not a negative thing
it just gives the place a Hungarian flavour

Another wedding car
- La Contessa is a fantastic place to have parties

A la Carte

 Aperatives in the hotel lobby
of La Contessa
 There was buffet dinner again
but asked if possible to have a la carte instead
- maitre d'hotel was surprised for the question,
"of course it's possible!"
- so it would have been possible every night,
but no-one told that...
Beef carpacchio with pesto and grated parmesan
- excellent!
- absolutely perfect!
- great start for the Saturday dinner
 Roasted trout (pisztarang) with almonds
and vegetables
- the texture of the meat was very good,
and taste was good too
- pisztarang is a local fish from the nearby streams
- roasted vegetables were tasty and crispy,
but the creamy potatoes were too much
and they were actually sliced (very aldente)
potatoes with cheece

Would have taken some cheese and dessert as well
but nobody came to asked...
so after waiting for a while,
check, please!
Gorgeous chandelier!

Millenniumi

Saturday, August 27, 2011

 Nice morning!
- after jogging and breakfast
felt like going to the pool area,
read a bit and just relax..
but instead went hiking
On the way out of the hotel area
passed this wedding car
of Dori and Gabi
- fab, isn't it?

 So climbed up 4km
- the road was very easy though
 Marvellous view

After 50mins reached the Millenniumi tower
- 612m above the sealevel
 View of Szilvasvarad
 The big red roof building
is La Contessa Hotel
People having picnic next to the tower
Even though the weather was very warm
enjoyed a lot walking up there
- the air felt so fresh
with different scents of wood and plants
 Time to go down
Chose another way through the forest
- not so easy to go down deep paths,
quite slippery
 Lunch time!
- delicious chicken soup with vermiselli
 XXL size bowl of soup
Volgy etterem
Szalajka volgy
Szilvasvarad
- good food, fast service
- some disturbing bees,
but they are everywhere now!

Train, Train

After sunbathing went for a little walk
in Szilvasvarad
- had linzer at Torpekek hupikek cukraszda
- delicious!
 Torpekek hupikek means Smurfs!
Took also a ride up by an old open train
 The ride took only 10mins
and it didn't go so up
- the destination was Szalajka Valley
It was nice and refeshing in the woods

A Day In Szilvasvarad

Fresh air in the morning
Wau, what a pile of logs!
- perhaps they have cold winters in Szilvasvarad
Local Fish Fry
- it's still early in the morning,
so the places are closed
Look who's running!
- hasn't happened since in Miami
Jakuzzi!
After sporting and breakfast
spent the day by the outdoor pool
- lovely!
- almost like a private pool,
other quests arrived only afternoon
Salad for lunch in the hotel
BBQ night in the hotel
- the grilled chicken was great!
La Contessa Hotel by night

La Contessa

Thursday, August 25, 2011

As the weather is almost unbearable in Budapest
decided to go up to the mountains for a long weekend
- booked a room at La Contessa Hotel
in Szilvasvarad
 Room 316 in the attic

The bath products by Yves Rocher
Very nice tiles in the bathroom
This is perhaps a bit too much,
own sauna in the bathroom of a wellness hotel!
Had lunch at the Erzsebet restaurant of the hotel
 Feels like being abroad,
everything made with style
 Bread with herb butter
 Zucchini stuffed with blue cheese
 Pasta Gorgonzola looks nice too
 It's raining!
- haven't seen rain for ages
View from the window of the attic room

 Closer look of the view
- location is quite high
so the weather is much fresher than in the city
 Wellness department with indoor and
outdoor pools,
Finnish sauna, aroma sauna, biosauna,
and steam sauna
- spent some time there after the lunch
reading, swimming and enjoying the steam sauna
Beautiful hall of the first floor
 Backyard of the hotel

Buffet dinner at the Erzsebet restaurant
- not a gourmet experience
but it was ok
