Archeological Roman Ruins In Bolonia

Baelo Claudia in Bolonia

Roman ruins in Spain!

Not a huge fan of archeological ruins - seen so many of them during my life and they all look pretty much the same. Anyways, it was nice to visit this place in Bolonia near about 20km from Tarifa in the province of Cadiz in autonomous community Andalucia.  It makes wonder how advanced people were 2.000 years ago, and how it all was destroyed and the knowhow was forgotten.

The ancient name of this Roman town is Baelo Claudia. You can find there a Roman theatre, thermal baths, temples, shops, market square, courthouse...

Beside the archeological site there is a very contemporary looking museum. I really like the clean lines of the building. The views from the site are peacefully beautiful - turquoise, soft shades of greige & ochre and hint of emerald green. An impressive place with wonderful soothing atmosphere.

Roomalaisia raunioita Espanjassa!

Bolonia sijaitsee noin 20 km Tarifasta Cadizin provinsissa Andalucian maakunnassa. Tämän roomalaisen kaupungin nimi oli Baelo Claudia. Raunioista on löytynyt roomalainen teatteri, kylpylä, temppeleitä, kauppoja, tori, oikeustalo...

Arkeologisten kaivausten lisäksi alueella on museo. Vaikuttava paikka, jossa hieno rauhoittava tunnelma.

Amuri Museum of Workers' Housing in Tampere

Wednesday, July 6, 2016

If you happen to visit Finland and especially the city of Tampere and don't know what to do there after being in the amusement park called Särkäniemi and done some shopping, go to Amuri Museum of workers' Housing. It's a great way to see a part of history of Finland. The palce is located just a few meters out of the city centre so it's easy access by foot.

Amuri Museum of Workers' Housing has five residental houses and four outbuildings in their original location. The homes outdats from 1882 to 1973. There's also an early 20th century cobbler's shop, a bakery  from the 30s and a cooperative shop and a haberdashery.
In one house there were usually living four families. In every house and room it's described who lived in that place - what was the occupation of the parents, how many children there were and what ages they all were.

When I arrived to the homes of the 40s and 50s it already started to look a bit familiar. I could spot some items that I had seen in my grandparents' homes and in the shop there were very familiar products that haven't changed at all - such as my favourite Finnish Fazer Blue chocolate! The blue package and golden logo is still exactly the same.

If you're intrested in you can find more details here!

BTW, I know less is more but somehow I got carried away and just kept adding pics here - actually I planned to put much more.

Freshly baked blueberry pie

Don't forget to pop in to Cafe Amurin Helmi (the Pearl of Amuri)at the location. There's a great bakery on the spot. Had a slice of glutenfree rhubarb cake with vanilla custard.

The museum is open during the summer season between 10am-6pm, closed on Mondays.

Night Of Museums

Sunday, June 22, 2014

Last night it was the night of the museums in Budapest, meaning the museums were open till 2am and with a 1.500huf (less than €5) wristband you could enter to all the museums in the city. Had a long list of the interesting museums where wanted to visit, but there were so much programs and plenty to see already on Andrassy út, so didn't get any longer than that... (and I'm living next to Andrassy út!)

Exhibitios, concerts, dance shows, fashion shows...

The Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition in the Museum of Fine Arts is absolutely worth to see! It will be on till 24. August.

Henry Toulouse-Lautrec made a scarce lithograph of the American Clara Ward, Princesse de Caraman-Chimay and Hungarian violinist Rigó Jancsi in 1897, "Idylle Princière".

Btw, there's a cake called Rigo Jancsi as well. I will come back to that later.

Have you ever tasted this Hungarian delicacy?

It's called 'langos' and made of salty donut with sour cream, onion and crated cheese on top. People tend to like it. Not my kind of snack though.

Next weekend there will be Night Run including not only running but zumba, salsa, nordic walking... starting at 10pm and lasting until 4am.

Visited this nice art museum called Carmen Thyssen in Malaga.

Palacio de Villalon on Calle Compania is home of
the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga.

The museum was opened in March 2011 and it has a permanent collection of more than 200 works of Spanish artists of the 19th century, centred especially on Andalucian paintings.

The building is a 16th century Renaissance city palace.
The restoration focused on the recovery of its original layout and spaces, combined with newly built areas.
Beautifully renovated!

Julio Romero de Torres (Cordoba, 1874-1930) is one of the most renowned Spanish artists of what was known as the fin-de-siecle period and has come to be regarded as the absolute master of Andalucian symbolism.

The naturalist landscapes were my favourite ones together with the costumbrismo paintings which gave a great peek to the everyday life of people at the mid 19th century.
