Kävelyllä Budapestissa

Tässä vähän lisää kuvia kesäisestä ja niin rauhallisesta Budapestista. Tällä hetkellä kaupunki näyttää todella erilaiselta: turistit ovat poissa ja paikalliset viikonlopun vietossa Balaton-järvellä.

Koko kevät ja kesä on ollut tavallisuudesta poikkeavaa paitsi covid19 takia niin myös kelien suhteen. Normaalisti kesä Budapestissa alkaa toukokuussa ja hellettä jatkuu aina syyskuulle asti. Tänä vuonna lämpötilat ovat vaihdelleet tiuhaan tahtiin ja on ollut vaikea arvioida, miten tulisi pukea; laittaako päälle villapaidan vai kenties bikinit.

Kesäkuussa rajut sadekuurot pyyhkäisivät kaupungin kadut harva se päivä. Myös puistot saivat kokea sateen voiman! Sankarten aukion takana olevaa kaupunginpuistoa (Városliget) on pistetty uusiksi ja sinne on mm. istutettu upea ruusutarha. Aamulenkillä kuulin, kun kaupungin puutarhurit surivat rankkasateissa tuhoutuneita ruusuja ja kehottivat käymään Margit-saarella ihastelemassa suojaisemmassa olevia ja paremmin säilyneitä yksilöitä. Kyllä ne kaupunginpuiston ruusutkin ovat vielä (taas) upeita. Omista parvekepelargonioista jäi vain pari lehteä jäljelle, nyyh.

Walking In Budapest

Some more pics from Budapest this summer. It's so quiet out there, especially in the weekends. Not yet tourist groups and the locals have gone to lake Balaton.

The whole summer has been different. Not just because covid19, but the weather has been pretty weird too. Usually the summer starts in May and lasts all the way to September. This year the temperatures have changed really quickly, and you never know if you need a sweater or just bikinis when you go out.

In June there were rain showers almost every day. Sometimes those showers were really heavy and destroyed gardens. Geraniums in my balcony suffered a lot - only a couple of leaves were left, when it was raining cats and dogs on day.

I heard one morning while walking in the City Park (Varosliget) the gardeners grieving for the destroyed roses. They told me that the roses in Margit Island were in much better shape, so perhaps I would like to pay a visit there.

Budapestin numeroituja kaupunginosia

Budapestissa eri kaupunginosat on numeroitu samaan tapaan kuin Pariisissa. Jos joku siis kysyy sinulta, että missä asut Budapestissa, niin vastaat ykkösessä, kolmosessa tai vaikka kutosessa. Yhteensä kaupunginosia on 23. Täysin loogisesti numerot eivät kuitenkaan mene. Vaikka olen pyörinyt Budapestissa reilut 20 vuotta, en osaa laittaa kartalle kaikkia sen osia.

Districts Of Budapest Named By Numbers

Different districts of Budapest are named with numbers in same way as in Paris. So if someone asks you where you live in Budapest, you should answer 'I live in the first district' or sixth district and so on. Altogether there are 23 districts in Budapest. In my opinion they are not numbered very logically. even though I've been around for more than 20 years here, I cannot place all of them on the map.

Esimerkiksi viides kaupungiosa (V. kerület) on Budapestin keskusta aluetta ja sijaitsee Pestin puolella. Kuudes kaupunginosa sijaitsee (VI. ker.) viidennen vieressä joelta sisämaahan päin. Kaupungin pääbulevardi Andrássy út, ooppera sekä monet lähetystöt ovat tässä kaupungiosassa, samoin oma kotikatuni.

Sen sijaan Ykkönen on linnavuoren aluetta Budan puolella, samoin kakkonen, joka on ehkä sitä halutuinta asuinaluetta omakotitaloineen. Nelosesta minulla ei ole mitään hajua, mutta 13. kaupunginosa (XIII. ker.) taas on hyvinkin tuttu ja sijaitsee kutosen vieressä joelle päin.

Listaa voisi jatkaa loppuun asti sinne 23. osaan asti, mutta tällä kertaa keskityn pintapuolisesti vain vitosesta kasiin, joiden läpi tämän kertainen iltakävelyni kulki. Viidennestä kaupunginosasta ei taida löytyä yhtään ränsistynyttä taloa ja muutenkin kaikki on suhteellisen hyvin hoidettua.

8. kaupunginosa oli vielä muutama vuosi sitten aluetta, jonne ei tehnyt mieli mennä edes päiväsaikaan saati sitten illalla. Pikkuhiljaa aluetta on alettu kunnostaa ja nykyään ainakin osasta siitä on tullut suosittua varsinkin yliopisto-opiskelijoiden keskuudessa sekä myös taidepiireissä.

Ihan tyhjin vatsoin ei enää tarvitse kierrellä katuja, vaan kävelyjen lomassa pääsee jo istahtamaan terasseille herkuttelemaan ja lepuuttamaan koipia.

Fifth district (V. kerület) is the central area of the city and located on Pest side. Sixth district (VI. ker.) is beside the fifth one but more inland from the river. The main boulevard Andrássy út as well as the Opera House and many embassies are in the sixth. also my home street is there.

The First district is the Castle area on Buda side. The Second district is on Buda side too, and it is probably the most desired living area with 12th district. I have no clue where the Fourth district is located, but the 13th district is quite familiar for me as it is next to the 6th.

I could continue with this list all the way up to the 23rd district, but let's jump back to the walk through the 5th district to the 8th district. I can't remember seeing any ruin building in the 5th district. All the houses and parks there are renovated and in good shape.

A couple of years back the 8th district was not so pleasant to visit even in daytime not to mention at night. Little by little the area has got a facelift and it's rather popular by the university students and also in art circles as there are plenty of small art galleries around.

You don't need to walk around the city with an empty stomach. Many restaurants, bars and cafes have opened their terraces, so sit down, rest your feet and have a snack.
