Lupasin jatkaa baskiaiheesta vielä lisää (edellisen Baskimaata-postauksen löydät täältä). Heti aamiaisen jälkeen - joka Espanjassa ei tosiaankaan ole turhan aikaisin - lähdettiin ajamaan Elgoibarista rannikolle päin ja pysähdyttiin Pasaia-nimisessä kalastusryhmittymässä. Pasaia muodostuu neljästä eri kylästä, joista Pasaje de San Juan on yksi, muut ovat San Pedro, Ancho sekä Trincherpe.
Jätimme auton Pasaian liikekeskuspuolelle ja jatkoimme veneen kyydissä Pasaje de San Juanin puolelle. Kapeilla kujilla ei pahemmin autoja näkynyt, joten siellä oli mukava kävellä kaikessa rauhassa ja katsella ja ihmetellä ympärillä olevia vanhoja rakennuksia, joissa kaikissa vielä asutaan ja vietetään ihan tavallista elämää kaikkien näiden vuosikymmenten ehkä jopa -satojen jälkeen.
Kirjailija Victor Hugo on asunut Pasaje de San Juanissa. Talo toimii nykyään museona.
Ulkoilu- ja patikointireitit houkuttelivat, mutta nyt ei ollut aikaa jäädä vaeltamaan. Täältä muuten menee myös pätkä Camino de Santiago de Compostelaa. Monen vastaantulijan repussa roikkui caminon tunnus eli simpukankuori.
Pasaje de San Juanissa olisi voinut olla pidempäänkin, mutta tällä kerralla siihen ei ollut aikaa, sillä matka jatkui seuraavaan kohteeseen.

As I promised earlier - here are some more about Basque Country (you can find my previous post about it here). Straight after the breakfast - fortunately not too early in Spain - we started from Elgoibar towards the coast. Our first stop was in a fishing community called Pasaia, which consists of the villages of San Juan, San Pedro, Anchoa and Trincherpe.
We left our car on the more business/commercial side of the place and continued by boat to the other side of the river, where Pasaje de San Juan is located. Luckily there was not too many cars on the narrow streets and alleys, so it was really nice to walk and look around all those old buildings there, and feel the atmosphere. I never stop wandering how amazing it is that people live totally normal life in historiacal places like these.
Writer Victor Hugo had lived in Pasaje de San Juan. His former home is now a museum.
Wanted to go hiking when saw so many gorgeous paths and trails, but maybe next time - now there was no time for hiking. By the way, a part of Camino de Santiago de Compostela goes through San Juan. Spotted many walkers and cyclists with a seashell hanging in their backpack. That's the sign of Camino de Santiago de Compostela.
It would have been great to spend a bit more time in Pasaje de San Juan, but we wanted to continue to our next destination.
