Signs Of Spring - Lilacs & Asparagus

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

The weather hasn't been as warm as usually at this time of the year, but never the less spring has definitely arrived here. Two ultimate signs of spring are blooming lilacs & fresh asparagus - both from the local farmers' market.

There are plenty of reasons to fill your plate with more of asparagus, the spring superfood.
The green veggie is packed with minerals & vitamins A, C, E, K & B6, as well as folate, iron, copper, calsium, protein and fiber.

Did you know that lilacs belong to the olive family, there are more than 1 000 varieties of lilacs, they only bloom only about 3 weeks in the spring?

Parsa on todellinen kevään superfoodi.

What shall I cook from asparagus?

(FI) Mitäköhän sitä kokkaisi parsasta?

  2. I completely agree with you! When I was a kid our neighbor had a huge lilac tree and the smell was just heaven this time of year. And what's more spring than asparagus. I like mine simple. Quickly steamed or grilled and then a little butter, lemon, salt and pepper.

  3. I love lilacs and they always remind me of my childhood (we had lots of lilac trees in the garden). We eat steamed asparagus with hollandaise sauce or soft boiled eggs and it's delicious - simply grilled is fab too.
