Home Decor: Neutral Tones

Wednesday, October 4, 2017

I was asked to decorate a receantly renovated flat with 2 bedrooms and a living/dining area. The place was meant to be rented out for 2 students coming to study in Budapest. I was told that the overall colour scheme should be light & neutral. There should be a lounge sofa and a round dining table in the common living/dining area, and bed, desk and wardrobe in the both bedrooms.

These are the moodboards I made for this flat. Picked up the pieces of furniture and decor items at Ikea,  Jysk, Bo Concept, Vakum Design, HM Home and Vivre - all available in Budapest.

Unfortunately they decided to continue without my help. I'm a bit curious to see how the flat will turn out - do they steel my ideas or make it totally with a different style.

When you are styling and decorating an empty flat, which will be rented out fully-furnished, it's essential to know the potential target group and their needs.

I have a pretty strong sense of style and know what I can deliver. Sometimes the ideas of a designer and a client just don't match. Then it's better to give up than bang your head on the wall and deliver something you can't be proud of.

Cosy & Inviting Home

Friday, September 23, 2016

(EN)I have already introduced this beautiful home a bit earlier (you can find it here!) but it's such a lovely place with a fantastic atmosphere so I just had to show these pics.
This home is a good example how a home can be so warm and cosy with neutral hues. Itäs definitely far from boring. When the walls are white, pieces of furniture and textiles are in natural tones - light & dark - it already looks so tranquil & inviting. In this home a bit of colour comes from paintings and books. Btw, isn't that built-in bookshelf gorgeous?

****

(EN) There's still missing a painting above the sofa and a new lamp replacing the white one standing in the corner.

I've been thinking of this Finnish "Helmat" lamp by Petri Vainio:

I love Christa Bartesch's style and her paintings and think one of them would be perfect also in this home.

(FI) Kodista puuttuu vielä taulu sohvan yläpuolelta ja uusi jalkalamppu vanhan nurkassa olevan valkoisen tilalle.

Valaisimeksi olen ajatellut yllä olevaa Petri Vainion suunnittelemaa Helmat-valaisinta.

A Home With Neutral Tones

bedroom

Looking for some new lamps and paintings for this cosy home to make it even cosier.

When this project started this whole unit was a part of another apartment and we cut it from that by bulding a wall where now is the built-in bookself. There was no kitchen as it was left to the other side of the wall. The aim was to make a one big space with a functional kitchen part as well as a dining area and place for a big couch to watch TV and relax. There was already the glass doors separating a room with three windows and that was made for a nice looking bedroom with the same neutral tones as the rest of this new  home.

(I will show you later one how this looked before.)

Any ideas what to put on these white walls?

Housing Fair 2016 in Seinäjoki, Part 3

Thursday, July 21, 2016

This house called 'Kotola' was one of my favourites at the Housing Fair 2016 in Seinäjoki. It's located a bit separately from the others but still very easy to find. The house has a kind of 'sketch -ish' raw look, it's a bit like unfinished, but it's not. It's built so that it will be easy to change the space over the years whenever the persons living there want to update their living style.

The bathroom of Kotola was definitely at least one of the best - I may say it was actually number 1 among the bathrooms at the Gousing Fair 2016. Simple love those concrete walls and black shower. Everything in the house looks and feel natural as lots of wood, linen and other natural materials were used. I don't usually like the look of wooden walls but in this house it all made sense and looked so fresh. The whole colour palette was, of course, very neutral & natural.

Interesting detail was the garden sauna at the end of the terrace.

Would yoy like to live in this kind of natural home?

It was a great joy to visit this festive home of a friend of mine in Finland. A working couple with altogether seven kids and two dogs lives ahectic life and yet their home looks so elegant!

A Sneakpeek To A Home Full Of Neutral Tones

Sunday, December 6, 2015

Here's a sneakpeek to a home in Helsinki. This project in Pajamäki is still in process, and btw there's another home in the same block that needs a bit of refurbishing... :)

Basically just rearranged the existing pieces of furniture, added some textiles and kept the color scheme neutral and light.
