Puer Tea Cakes

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

Have you ever wonder why puer tea is packed as frisbee like cakes?

Tea cakes were developed already in the Ming Dynasty era to make it easier to transport tea over long distances. Tea cakes made it possible to have huge amounts of tea in a small space.

Last time I visited Zhao Zhou tea house had a chance to see how Ágnes wraps Puer teacake in a white paper. It's pure art!

(FI) Oletko koskaan ihmetellyt miksi Puer-tee pakataan frisbeen näköisiksi kiekoiksi?

Todellista taidetta!

What is Puer tea?

Shortly - Puer tea is aged tea. In Puer tea fresh leaves get tossed by hand in giant woks long enough to halt the tea's oxidation, but not so long as to drive off all moisture and kill natural bacteria.

The tea is then left to dry in the sun, but the bacteria live on, and over years ans decades, they'll help completely transform the tea from fresh, bitter green into something more dark, mellow and rich.

Mitä Puer-tee oikein on?

Lyhyesti sanottuna Puer-tee on kuten viini eli paranee vanhetessaan.

  8. Wow these looks really interesting! I had never encounter one before. But is it still for tea brewing to drink or just use the aroma scent for air cleansing?
