Why Do I Add Turmeric To My Smoothie?

Monday, August 8, 2016

I'm a fan of smoothies. Especially those made of fruit and berries. A smoothie is such a great and easy way to start a day. I have some ingredients that I always add to my morning smoothies and one of those is turmeric.

Why do I add turmeric to my smoothies?

For its health benefits, of course. It doesn't really give any flavour for my smoothies, a bit of yellowish colour though.
A couple of years ago I heard that turmeric is used for preventing and also curing cancer. That woke up my curiosity and I found even more health benefits of turmeric and decided to add turmeric powder in my smoothies - that's an easy way to use it.

These're the top 10 health benefits of turmeric:
  • Prevents cancer
  • Relieves arthritis
  • Controls diabetes
  • Reduces cholesterol levels
  • Immunity booster
  • Heals wound
  • Weight management
  • Prevents Alzheimer's disease
  • Improves digestion
  • Prevents liver disease

My morning smoothie with white currants
1 banana
2 handfuls of white currants
a bite of fresh ginger
1 spoonful of chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
1 teaspoon of lucuma powder
Coconut milk

All ingredients into a blender for a couple of seconds and the breakfast is ready. Very easy!

Turmeric is also an excellent source of iron and manganese as well as vitamin B6 and potassium.

Have you been using turmeric?

  1. That sounds SO delish!!! I'm having a hard time believing that I've never thought to add turmeric to mine! Have you ever considered adding some spinach or kale? It's another one of those things you barely taste... but adds a serious heath kick! Thanks for sharing this - turmeric is going into ours this afternoon! Glad to know that powdered works... I thought i'd have to run out for the fresh goods!

    1. I haven't yet be brave enough to add spinach or kale to my smoothies but they both are on my list. Perhaps with green apples. Powdered turmeric is the one to use, no need to look a fresh one.
