Mashka - Made In San Francisco

Sunday, March 29, 2015

How do you like my new necklace? It's made of stones & crystals. Love the shades of it - crispy white, sharp black, earthy grey and lucid clear stones with silver chain. Goes with anything! It's hand-made by a small American jewelry brand called Mashka in San Francisco.

//Mitäs tykkäät uudesta kaulakorustani? Kivistä ja kristalleista tehdyssä korussa on niin ihanat sävyt - raikasta valkoista, jämäkkää mustaa, maanläheistä harmaata ja läpiluultavaa kirkasta yhdistettynä hopeiseen ketjuun. Sopii vaikka minkä kanssa! Koru on käsityötä ja sen on valmistanut pieni amerikkalainen korubrändi nimeltään Mashka San Franciscossa.

The main store of Mashka is on Grant Avenue in San Francisco.

Fleuriste

If you happen to be in Helsinki on a Saturday morning, book a table at  Fleuriste for Saturday brunch. Charming small place with delicious brunch, which includes juice, coffee/tea, yoghurt with berries & granola and a plate with slices of cheese, Spanish omelet, bresaola, grapes, plum jam and bread - also glutein-free! And a slice of cake or a muffin. The chocolate muffin is glutein-free, yummy! A piece of Paris in the middle of Helsinki ;)Nice atmosphere and the portions are just the right size.

Had a nice Saturday morning with friends at Fleuriste last week!

//Itselläni oli oikein mukava lauantaiaamupäivä ystävien kanssa Fleuristen brunssilla!

Morning Walk

Friday, March 20, 2015

Walking in the brisk morning weather. The sun rises already at 6.30am and sets at 6.30pm. Plenty of time to enjoy the light :) Even though there's no signs of green yet, the nature looks pretty amazing.

Oh, I was so wrong - there is a hint of green out there!

ps. Are you ready for the almost total eclipse of the sun?

// Oho, olin väärässä - löytyyhän sitä ripaus vihreää jo!
ps. oletko valmis lähes täydelliseen auringonpimennykseen tänään klo 11-13.30?

Spring

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

I'm not sure if it's officially spring yet in Finland, but it's sunny & reatively warm outside and some branches have started getting green (inside at least). Tried to take some "artistic" photos with different apertures, shutter speeds, colour temperatures ... All it takes is simply practise, practise & practise on daily basis! So perhaps one day I might be able to take THAT picture, who knows...

There's an exhibition on works of photographer Sylvia Palchy at Mai Mano House in Budapest. You can also watch a short film/documentary  of her there, which is actually a very nice way to get to know her and her works a bit better.

Sylvia Palchy is a Hungarian/American photographer. She was born in Budapest. Her Hungarian Jewish mother was in hiding in fear of Nazi persecution during World
War II. Her father was a Hungarian Roman Catholic of aristocratic descent and she was raised in his faith.
Plachy's family moved to New York City due to the Hungarian revolution.
Plachy's photos have appeared in several publications such as The New York Times, The Village Voice, The New Yorker, Granta, Artforum, Fortune and many more. Her photos have been exhibited in galleries and museums in Berlin, Budapest, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, Paris ans Tokyo, and are in collection of the MoMA in New York City, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the San Francisco MoMA.

Sylvia Plachy lives in New York City with her husband, and is the mother of Academy Award-winning actor Adrien Brody.

ps. At Mai Mano House there're also a collection of picture of Adrien Brody taken by his mother.
