Who Stole Margit-sziget?

Sunday, December 4, 2011

The weather was a bit foggy in Budapest
on Saturday
Can't see the other end of Margit Bridge
- after the renovation the bridge looks good
and the pedestrian and cycling ways are separated
which make walking there more pleasant
 But where's the Margit Island?
Stolen?
Oh, there it is!

Folk Dance Show

Friday, August 19, 2011

Yesterday evening went to Margit Island
to see a Hungarian folk dance show
"Ecseri lakodalmas - Az alomidö"
(Ecser Wedding - Dreamtime)
on Margitszigeti Szabadteri Szinpad

The 60-year Anniversary Gala
of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble

The first part consisted
old traditional folk dances
by Magyar Allami Nepi Egyuttes
(Hungarian State Folk Ensemble)
- great, very talented dancers!

 Szolnoki Szimfonikus Zenekar
(Szolnok City Symphony Orchestra
- they're good!

The second half was folk dances
in a modern way
- didn't impress me,
even though am a great fan of modern dance,
some how tried to be very artistic
which made it a bit fake,
there're grest moments though

"Founded in 1951, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble
is devoted to collecting the folklore treasury
of the Carpathian Basin and presenting it on stage.
The Ensemble's repertoire encompasses all genres
related to folk tradition: historical music,
authentic folk music and dance,
as well as world music and
traditional-based contemporary dance-shows."

- next week this time I'll be looking at
a totally different sceenary
far, far away...

Flood

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Where's the road???
This is how the Danube bank looks
on Pest side on Tuesday
Jogging is still allowed on Margit Island,
but perhaps not tomorrow

It's flooding also on Buda side

A Book & a Cd

Sunday, October 10, 2010

Went for an afternoon walk on Saturday
and popped in to Alexandra Bookstore
- bought a book of short stories by Gyula Krudy
& a cd of System of Down
- the whole summer went by by listening to
Volbeat & Ramones while running on Margit Island,
so it was time to change the tune
.
Gyula Krúdy (21 October 1878 – 12 May 1933)
was a Hungarian writer and journalist.
In his teens, Gyula published newspaper pieces
and began writing short stories.
Krúdy's novels about Budapest were popular
during the First World War and the Hungarian Revolution,
but he was often broke due to excessive drinking,
gambling and philandering.
He was called "a Hungarian Proust"
by critic Charles Champlin in The New York Times.

Sporty

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

This week started in a sporty way:
Have been working out in the gym
or running on Margit Island
depending on the wheather
- it's been sunny & rainy every day
.
Bought a membership card to World Class Fitness
at Avenue Gardens & Marriott
- yesterday had pilates class,
that's challenging!
.
This morning went for a 1/2h swim
- the pool is only 16m,
but it was nice & quiet there,
afterwards popped in to steam room for some minutes
- very relaxing
.
Small but functional locker room with 2 showers
.
