Spring In Szentendre

Looks like a piece of art

Here're some snapshots from Szentendre.

It's a small town about 10km north of Budapest. Easy to reach by local train called HEV from Buda side. In the summer time it's nice to go there by ferry. Anyways, as it's still spring and the weather is not yet that warm I took the train at Margit hid (bridge) on Budaside and headed to Szentendre.

I read that it takes 2-3 days to explore this small riverside town, but I think in one day you can see pretty much everything. The town centre is tiny, village-like and easily walkable. There are galleries, churches, small museums and shops, cafes and restaurants.

(FI) Tässä muutama kuva Szentendrestä.

Szentendre on pieni kaupunki noin 10 km Budapestista pohjoiseen. Sinne pääsee helposti Budan puolelta paikallisjunalla nimeltään HEV. Kesällä sinne on mukava mennä myös lautalla. No, joka tapauksessa itse piipahdin siellä Margit-sillan kupeessa pysähtyvällä junalla.

Luin jostain, että Szentendren visiittiin pitäisi varata 2-3 päivää, mutta omasta mielestäni yksi päivä riittää hyvin. Kaupungin keskusta on tosi pieni. kylämäinen ja helposti käveltävissä. Taidegallerioita, kirkkoja, pieniä museoita ja kauppoja, kahviloita ja ravintoloita - kaikkea löytyy.

In Szentendre you will find one of the 6 workshops in Hungary producing traditional blue printed fabrics. These beautiful indigo blue fabrics are hand-dyed and have different white motifs mainly floral and some birds.

(FI) Unkarissa on kuusi toimivaa pajaa, jotka painattavaa perinteistä unkarilaista sinistä kangasta ja Szentendrestä löytyy niistä yksi. Nämä kauniit indigon siniset kankaat värjätään käsin ja kuvioidaan erilaisilla valkoisilla motiiveilla, pääasiassa  kukka- ja lintukuvioilla.

If you have time while in Budapest, pop in to Szentendre for a few hours!

ps. if you like marzipan - especially famous Hungarian Szamos marzipan, this is the place to buy it! There's even a Marzipan Museum.

I found another blog which introduces Szentendre, click here if you like to see it too!

(FI) Löysin netistä toisen blogin jossa esitellään Szentendreä, käy kurkkaamassa tästä jos kiinnostaa!

    1. That blue printed fabric is a sort of Hungarian specility, especially when printed in hand. It is very pretty.
