Why To Add Cinnamon Into Smoothies?

Sunday, August 14, 2016

No days without my morning smoothies. It's easy and quick to make, tastes delicious and has plenty of vitamins and other nutrients. I have already mentioned that I add turmeric to my smoothies for its health benefits. Another ingredients I always add is cinnamon. Otherwise I change the ingredients - sometimes berries sometimes fruit depending on the season.

These are the top 10 health benefits of cinnamon
  • Prevents cancer
  • Helps fight against bacterial and funghal infections
  • Prevents Alzheimer's disease
  • Helps treat the common cold and diarrhea
  • Heals cronic wounds
  • It's loaded with powerful antioxidants
  • Cuts the risk of heart disease
  • It has a powerful anti-diabetic effect
  • Helps reduce bloating
  • It has odor neutralizer and mood improving effect

My berry smoothie

1 banana
2 handfuls of blueberries
1 handful of raspberries
a bite of fresh ginger
1 spoonful of chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
1 teaspoon of lucuma powder
Coconut milk

Good to know about cinnamon:

There are 2 kinds of cinnamon - Ceylon cinnamon which is known as 'true' cinnamon being healthier and more effective and Cassia cinnamon which is the more common variety and normally sold in supermarkets. This later one can, of course, also be used but it should be consumed in very small doses, max 2 tbs per day. That's why I add it only a 1/2 tbs to a smoothie. That's amount you cannot really taste, just gives a very slight flavour.

Do you add any cinnamon into your food?

  1. Looks delicious. I regularly make an ice tea and I add berries, lime and cinnamon. I'm thinking tomorrow I might try a berry, apple and cinnamon juice (nutri-bullet). I would like to try the turmeric also. How much turmeric do you put in?
