Lunch at Kelly's
301 Whitehead Street at Caroline Street
Came here to eat conch fritters
as heard that they do the best ones here.
Do not leave Key West without trying conch!
Conch is a shellfish,
the one where you can hear the sound of the ocean.
Key West = the Conch Republic
Big and meaty with some spices.
(the best conch fritters ever are the ones they do
at Harbour Lodge in Hope Town, Elbow Cay in the Bahamas!)
Crab cakes were not on the menu,
but got them anyway!
My favourites! Here with slices of pineapple.
House salad with green leaves, strawberries and nuts
was extremely delicious.
Got there just in time - at 1pm it was already packed.
The plastic chairs is not so nice idea,
but in laid-back Key West it doesn't really bother.
The house was formerly the first home of Pan Am Airlines.
The first round-trip ticket to Havana was sold here in 1927.
Caroline Street is nice, leafy, quiet street.
On Whitehead Street opposite Kelly's is
Harry S Truman's The Little White House.
Hemingway's home is also on Whitehead Street,
the street ends at the Southernmost Point.
