FoxTown

As the weather looked like this
didn't have much choice
but drive to FoxTown
to do some shopping...
.
Foxtown is an outlet mall in Mendrisio
near the Italian border
- on the way the weather didn't get any better
.
The clouds're really down
and got some heavy rain on the way
but after San Bernardino everything changed,
the sun was shining &
the temperature rose at least 10C!
.
This is the sign that has been waiting for
to see for months!
.
Behind this humble door
there're outlets of
Armani, Burberry, Cerruti, Dior, D&G,
Escada, Etro, Fendi, Gucci, Boss,
Iceberg, Jil Sander, Missoni, Prada,
Valentino, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent...
just to mention some of them
A heaven on earth!
.
The shops are open everyday between 11am-7pm
- lots of shoppers there from all over the world,
mainly, of course, from Italy & Switzerland
.
Didn't come out with empty hands!
Result of 6 hours' heavy shopping
- made fantastic bargains!
.

which will take place on Saturday

A very typical hotel in 90s style
- spacious room
. Bathroom equipped with
hair-dryer & make-up mirror
.
Shower
.
Entrance to the reception
- the hotel has a Michelin Star restaurant,
unfortunately it's closed for the holidays...
.
Beautiful garden of the hotel
.

Dinner On Tuesday

Before going to the details of the dinner
would like to mention
about the
Zell am See - Kaprun Card
- during the summer season you get it free
from the hotel
- with the card you get free admission
to all the major attractions of the area,
boats, busses, lifts etc
Great advantage!
And once again a good example of
great marketing!
.
So the dinner on Tuesday at Hotel Max Living
.
Salmon salad
- nice
.
French onion soup
- could have been a bit stronger
.
Grilled seabass with vegetables
- fantastic!
.
Tiramisu
- lovely soft texture
- not too small!
.
Will miss the food of Max Living
- leaving on Wednesday!
.

Another Walking Tour

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Decided to hike up to 1330m
to Mittelstation
- here it looks like going straight
but in real it was totally
something else...
Half way still to go...
- came down by this kind of ski lift
CityXpress
.

No way could walk "schnell" any more!
.
Back down safely on the streets of Zell am See
. Had lunch here in the town center
. Typical Austrian restaurant
- ate mozzarella-tomato salad,
this time asked without balsamico
.After having a short rest at the hotel
went for a cup of hot chocolate
- Austrians can make a really good ones!
.
Needed a session at the saunas & pool
to relax the leg mussels
.

Facts About Zell am See

Zell am See is the capital of the Zell am See district
in the Austrian state of Salzburg.
It is the second largest city in the Pinzgau,
with about 10,000 inhabitants.
.
Zell am See is a tourist destination
and a transportation hub for the region.
The German name "Zell am See" means
the Italian "Cella at the Lake".
.

A garden gnome playing vuvuzela
or something by a gate of a house
.

Zell am See was already populated in Roman times.
In 740 AD, by order of the Archbishop Johannes (John) of Salzburg,
monks founded the village "Cella in Bisonzio".
Zell received the rights of a market town in 1357,
and its city rights on January 24, 1928.
.

Great Marketing

The region of Zell am See is an excellent
example of good marketing
- the area is mostly known for its winter season possibilities
but it is a fabulous place to spend at least
a part of summer holidays too
for its fresh & clean air,
gorgeous nature,
mountains, glaciers
activity possibilities etc
and not only for nearby countries
but also for people
who would find the nature very different
from its own
like Kuwait & Saudi-Arabia
.
The streets of Zell am See are full of
wealthy people from Kuwait & Saudi-Arabia
.
.
Why don't Finns do a big marketing campagn
in these countries
and offer white nights and reindeer safaris
or something?
Of course, the service must be improved to high level
and the facilities too
.

Dinner on Monday

Chicken curry salad
- delicious!
.
Paprika cream soup
- soft paprika taste, not too creamy
.
Seafood risotto with barley
- great texture
- seafood was probably from a can,
but didn't matter,
a fresh taste of crab
.
Creme brulee
- soft perfect texture
and taste too
.
When the portions are right sizes
a 4-course meal is not too heavy
.
The breakfast of the hotel is fantastic
- lots of choices
Easy to skip the lunch
and have "just" a cup of hot chocolate
or a piece of cake...
