Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Walked all the way to get...
... a strawberry oatmeal bar at Hope Town Coffee Shop - delicious & so healthy (or is it??)
,
A dove, not a city pigeon!
.
Waves of the ocean in White Sound.
.
And at the same time on the opposite side of the road - the distance is about 100m - the Sea of Abaco
is so calm & steady!

Elbow Reef Lighthouse

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Arriving to Hope Town.

Elbow Cay Lighthouse is located on the opposite of Hope Town in Hope Town marina. The only access to it is by boat.
.
The candy-striped Elbow Reef Lighthouse was built in 1864 by the Imperial Lighthouse Service to end wrecking activities, to the great dismay of the residents!
.
Some info about the lighthouse.
.

Entrance to the lighthouse.

Man-O-War Cay

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Papaya is growing in a tree like this
- did't know it but learnt it in Man-O-War
Quiet streets of Man-O-War
- not very touristic,
more permanent residental homes
.
Xmas tree in Joe's Studio gift shop
.
Nice road leading to the beach
.
Dock & Dine opened at the marina in 2008
- Man-O-War is so called dry island
meaning no alcoholic beverages are sold there
- not even in the restaurants
.
Had lunch at Dock & Dine
- conch fritters, cole slaw, french fries,
diet coke...
- perfect!
.
View from Dock&Dine
.
Man-O-War has been the centre for boat building
and repair for many years.
- nowadays the boats are made of fiberglass
.
Man-O-War harbour

Mangroves
.
Went also to Marsh Harbour to do some
grocery shopping at Maxwell's
before hitting back to Elbow Cay
Oh, the tide is really low back
at White Sound, Elbow Cay!
.
Steve's private dock in White Sound
.
Not wondering any more why
people are putting their boats up
- the tides are pretty heavy here!

Boiled Lobster

Saturday, February 19, 2011

1). Boil a lobster & chill it in a fridge
2) Cut it half

3) The shell is rather hard,
but not impossible to cut with a sharp knife
.
4) Take the meat out of the shell
.
5) Put it in a bowl & season it
.
6) Save the shells and serve the lobster meat in them
.
This is how it looks
.
For the main course had grilled grouper
with grilled zucchini
.
Bought the famous Vernon's Key West lime pie
- it damaged a bit while bringing it home
by a bicycle...
- but anyway it was delicious!
.

What's On The Menu?

Mahi mahi
Grouper

Lobster
.
February is the season for fishing Wahoo and also Bonefish.
The month is also good for
Mackerel, Grouper, Snapper, Barracuda & Shark
.
Almost grilled
.
Grilled half of lobster with avocado mousse
- this is good!
.
Grilled mahi mahi & grouper
with broccoli straight from
Mr Albury's garden
- mahi mahi has a bit stronger taste than grouper
which is rather mild,
both excellent anyway
.
Full moon
.
Almost night
- well, 6.30pm
.

White Sound

First when arrived to White sound
- which is part of the island of Elbow Cay
which belongs to the Abacos
which is a group of the islands
belonging to The Bahamas -
thought that every house was having the air condition on loud
but then realised that
the sound came from the ocean!
.
Perhaps the name of White Sound
comes from the sound of the white waves of the ocean
hotting to the white sand on the coast
- perhaps?
