Look, what a cute cafe I found at Vääksy! And the sun is shining!

One minus - there's no glutenfree products. But have to mentioned that the green tea was fantastic!

Visiting A Mill

Monday, July 20, 2015

I'm not very familiar with the Eastern Finland, or even with the middle part of the country. I've been to Tampere, of course, but anything more inside and further from the coast is not familiar to me at all. Had a chance to visit Vääksy, a small town near Lahti. There's an old mill, which is still in use and you can buy freshly (can I use that word?) grounded flours there. As I'm a glutenfree person, I had to skip shopping this time, but I could still enjoy the unique atmosphere out there.

The mill has been there since 1942. Their main basic ideas for the production are:
  • Maintaining the vitality of this rural area & culture
  • Production and providing of pure, additive-free Finnish cereal products for businesses and consumers
  • Caring for environment, including the use of locally produced grain
  • Providing an experience for people interesting in an old-fashioned grinder culture
