Mumok Wien

Art Splash a la Vienna

It is always nice to visit Vienna. The city is so clean & neat with lots of culture around. It does feel a bit distant, but that's probably because I usually pop in there only for one, max two days. Just like this time - it had been on my mind for some time now that it would be nice to spend a day there, visit some art exhibition and eat a slice of Sacher cake.

Pattern and Decoration & Vertigo Exhibitions

In the modern art museum of Vienna, which is called mumok, there are several interesting exhibitions on. I was especially interested in seeing Pattern and Decoration. somehow I just love patterns - combos of different forms & colours. The exhibition halls are light and spacious, and divided by walls with window type of holes.

The other exhition we saw at mumok was called Vertigo. That was super interesting and more like art installations. Lot of playing with lights. It was quite impressive to see how well it worked - for example a dark room with just a tiny hole for light created a beautiful art experiment.

Palmenhaus & Sacher

After experimenting all these wonderful pieces of art we were thirsty & hungry. Headed from Museum Quarter towards Burggarten and Palmenhaus restaurant fro lunch. Grilled trout with almond butter, side salad and a glass of prosecco was exactly what was needed. For dessert, of course, a slice of sacher cake in the authentic Sacher. The small Stube has been updated but still has that same charming atmosphere. The name was no more Sacher Stube yet Salon Sacher.

Going More Artsy

Before entering to Sacher, we accidentally passed by an art gallery, where a piece of art by Banksy caught our attention. Decided to popped in to that small gallery, which i nthe matter of fact wasn't that small at all as it continued downstairs.  There were so many fascinating pieces from other artists as well such as Andy Warhol, gorgeous photos of Elizabeth Taylor and so much more. The prices started from a bit over 3000€ and the most expensive ones by Andy Warhol went up to more than 100.000€.

Gallery Gerald Hartinger was a really great found! Back on the street we noticed that the whole street was dedicated to art with art galleries side by side. Btw, the name of this wonderful street is Spiegelgasse.

Absolutely fabulous idea is to show opera on the huge screens outside Viennese Opera House. There are benches outside the opera, where you can sit and enjoy the pieces. This time there was an opera by Strauss called  Die Frau ohne Schatten (The Woman without a Shadow).

Taidepöksäys wieniläisittäin

Wienissä on aina kiva käydä. Siisti kaupunki, jossa paljon kulttuuria.

Pattern and Decoration & Vertigo -näyttelyt

Wienin modernin taiteen museossa eli mumokissa on parhaillaan useampikin mielenkintoinen näyttely menossa. Minua kiinnosti erityisesti Pattern and Decoration -näyttely.
