About the colour BLUE

Blue regularly tops popularity charts thanks to its perceived calming, peaceful qualities, and its appeal goes back centuries - in the Renaissance, for example, the deep blue pigment derived from the mineral lapis lazuli was so prizes that it was used to piant the sacred robes of the Madonna.

You can create a relaxed, beachy feel with pale aquamarines (perfect set against sandy beiges); contrast blocks of brilliant cobalt with white walls or go for a jewel-box feel by saturating a space in teal, petrol and turquoise shades.

Not all blues are restful: the brighter the tone, the more invigorating the effect.

"To me, blue is the colour of distance and expansion, and makes me think of the sea and the sky - immediately happy thoughts. In an interior it has the effect of increasing the sense of spaciousness, but it really needs to be used in areaswhere the natural light is good, otherwise it can be rather clinical."
- Sir Terence Conran, designer -

"Blue is found in hte natural world, so anytime you put a colour against it, it's complementary."
- Eileen Kathryn Boyd, desiger -

  1. For me Blue is the colour of the sky and crystal Clear waters, and just makes me think about super hot weather and being on holiday :) Also, being a redhead, dark blue contrasts really well with my hair and is a staple colour in my autumn wardrobe :)

  9. For me, Blue is the color of Sky, ocean, Facebook and Twitter icons. From a color psychology perspective, blue is reliable and responsible.

This color exhibits an inner security and confidence. You can rely on it to take control and do the right thing in difficult times.

  12. The interior designer of my bedroom just recently gave me the color palette that will be used for my room. She gave shades of blue and I wondered why since I wanted a hotel vibe. Now, I know from your post that it increases the sense of spaciousness of my room since it's only 12.24 sqm. And my room has good natural lighting, so I'm now more confident that it will look great. Thanks for sharing.
