La Fenice

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Teatro La Fenice is the opera house of Venice.
It is one of the most famous theatres in Europe,
the site of many famous operatic premieres.
Its name reflects its role in permitting an opera company to
"rise from the ashes" despite losing the use of two theatres
(to fire and legal problems respectively).
Since opening and being named La Fenice,
it has twice burned and been rebuilt.
La Fenice burnt down in 1996,
and was reopened in 2003.
.
The building is quite modest
comparing it with many other
grandious ones in Venice
.
No operas performed during my stay
A concert of Eliahu Inbal on Saturday,
didn't ask if any tickets left
.
