City Tour in Miami

Thursday, January 14, 2010

The bus for Miami city tour arrived about in time.
Julio, the driver & guide, was telling everything
in English & in Spanish.
The tour started at Bayside,
from there went back to Art Deco District
to Collins Ave & Ocean Drive,
then via McArthur causeway towards
Little Havana
- had a 20mins stop there on Calle Ocho
.
No women ay all nor men under 65 years
allowed to enter Maximo Gomez Park to play domino
.
Miami's population is 2,5 million,
1,6 million of it speaks Spanish
.
Little Havana is not just for Cubans
but also for Nicaraguans, Puerto Ricans...
Not a place where you want to walk around after the sun set!
.
Before the boat trip,
the bus drove through Coral Cables,
which is said to be the prettiest part of the town
- lots of huge private houses in various style,
not always so stylish...
Coconut Grove,
which is the oldest part of the town,
known also as Little Bahamas
- you definately wouldn't want to get lost there at night,
or day either...
- small houses in really poor condition
and Downtown,
which is a combination of business district,
ghetto and construction hell
The boat tour started at Bayside
The weather was nice & sunny
but the wind was freezing
while sitting on the top of the boat
.

Island Queen boat
- the weather was nice & sunny,
but freezing on the top of the boat!
.
Skyscapers of Downtown Miami
.
Boat of the owner of Miami Heat basketball team
& Carneval Cruises
.
Houses & mansions on Star Islands:
- owned by rich & famous
and unfamous but rich
. .
.
.
Leaving behind the Star Islands
on the way back to Bayside port
.
Interesting looking "Vendor's" tropical tree
at Bayside
- lots of these trees also in Coral Cables
- the origin of these trees is in India
.
Got a good glimpse of the city during the tour
- it was 20 years from the previous visit
Visited the Miami Visitor Center on Lincoln Road,
where they recommended Bella on 1574 Washington Ave.
Bella had a table-made-desk at Cybre Cafe,
she was very kind and gave good information about the excursions.
