A day before March 15th

Saturday, March 14, 2009

Great weather!

Hösök tér
...
'On March 15 1848,
Hungary's rebellion against the Habsburgs began with poet's oration.
The events that followed were more like a Greek tragedy,
and about a year later,
the poet Sándor Petöfi, lay dying on the battlefield.
But the revolution of 1848 remains a source of Magyar pride.
Every year on March 15,
a day known simply as the National Holiday,
the country celebrates, people wear tricolour ribbons, called kokards,
to show patriotic solidarity,
and politicians make speeches."
