Portrait Photography In Daylight

(EN)Had a wonderful afternoon shooting portrait pics of Anna in daylight. It was a cloudy and rainy day but later in the afternoon there was for a moment a little sunshine, which gave a beautiful golden light.

The aim was to make a couple photos, which Anna could use for her work passes, some official and not so official pages, sites and documents. I feel most comfortable when shooting near so I use a 50mm lense - I hope I will soon be able to buy a 70 or 80mm lense - and blurring the backdrop. It was a pleasure to have a photo session with her. She's so beautiful and easy to work with.

When shooting outdoors in a daylight the light is very harsh on a sunny day. On a cloudy day the light diffused, softened and scattered, and the sunlight is still directional and creates a dark side to the subject. I used a diffuser in most of the pics. Tried a reflector but it made the light side too light. Found out how practical it would have been to use a compass to find out where the sun is in a cloudy day.

Ulkona päivänvalossa kuvattaessa valo on raaka varsinkin aurinkoisena päivänä.

  1. The lighting you have used is really effective. It is amazing how striking black and white photos can be.

    1. You're so right - b&w pics have a totally different feeling than the colour ones.

  2. Portraits are quite a thing and you did some good job there because I love those pictures, looks very well for an about page or to use them as portraits for social accounts.

  5. All these photos are gorgeous. I especially like the black and white ones perhaps because its not a theme I use very often, inspiring too.

  6. I think the pictures turned out great. But you're right, a little glimmer of the sun goes a long way in photos especially if you're shooting portraits.
