Welcome To My Home!

Sunday, September 22, 2013

I received an interesting challenge from Hekku behind Hues of black blog. The idea of the challenge is to take pictures of my home and introduce some new spaces, point of views etc something new that haven't been shown in this blog before. I took the challenge, had some fun trying to look my home with different eyes and here's the result. Hope you enjoy!

We live in an old house built in 1910. Bought it 7 years ago and made a massive renovation. This is the entrance. I've always wanted to have a red door. I find it welcoming and it's a good feng shui.

Got this cartoon from  my friend...Well, it's something about how people have different needs. Some of us would like to eat sausages every day and some buying a new LV bag...What does it have to do with me???

From the entrance we are continuing to the kitchen. It's a little wonder that the basils on the window sill are still alive.
I know, it looks pretty chaotic. The colour scheme of the whole home is black&white with light grey walls in every room, but especially in the kitchen there are loads of other colours too.
The kitchen is not exactly a picture-perfect but realistic. This is how it looks normally. Counter tops are rather full of gadgets which are in use on daily basis.
We didn't want to hide all the pipes. It gives a certain contrast to the otherwise old characters of the building. And as I'm a fan of lofts, this gives a hint of loft feeling, maybe..
One of my favourite objects is this 30s style tea pot from Marriage Freres. Bought it 5 years ago in Paris.

The posters and paintings add a huge amount of color. Lying above the mirror is not the perfect place for pieces of art, but all the walls seem to be pretty full...
The cook books and travel books have found their place in the kitchen. Colorful pieces again!

Pavoni hasn't been in use lately...Nespresso is so much easier to  use. Anyway, it's a beautiful object.

From the kitchen let's pay a visit to the dining room. Earlier I have shown the huge dining table, so this time I want to introduce the colourful corner of the room. The Britto Mickey Mouse and some precious photos.
Next room is the living room, where we have a fire place. Wanted to have an open one but it wasn't allowed. The builder who made it was so surprised that I didn't want to have any fancy details on it. He said this one was the simplest fire place he ever made. When it's rainy and cold outside it's so lovely to light the fire and enjoy the warmth and just watch the sparkling flames.
Now we have entered to the TV room. It's a very black space with one wall painted in black, black couch and puff, black media unit, black bookcase...but in these pics it looks quite light and has a soft feeling, doesn't it?
Oh no, this is part of my part of the walk-in closet...

The chest of drawers behind a built-in wall in the bedroom. Behind this one there's an identical one for Mr K. I don't know why it always feels there's never enough storage space.

The black&white theme continues also in the bathroom.
Guess what's behind the glass door!
Quite essential as after all we're from Finland!

So this was a sneak peak of my home.
Now I would like to give this challenge to Sofia, Anette, Yvonne, Hege and Nina.

The rules are:
- Take photos of your home. Something that you haven't shown in your blog before. A space, object, new perspective etc.
- Attach to your blog the blog/blogger who gave you the challenge.
- Add link of your post to Kotilo blog.
- Forward the challenge to five other bloggers.
- Have fun!

ps. Thank you, Hekku! I had fun making this!

  1. No, thank YOU! What a beautiful and interesting home you have - I love all the details, they bring so much character to your home (as if a place from 1910 could ever lack it...). You raised the bar pretty high for the next people you challenged to take part :-)
