Tropical Art Deco

SoBe's Art Deco District consists of some 800 buildings
from the 1930's and early '40s,
the cream of them along Ocean Drive
.
Tropical Deco Features:
- tropical motifs
- ice-cream colours
- nautical features
- curves & lines
- fantasy towers
- neon lighting
- chrome
- glass blocks
- geometric patterning
.
Art Deco District was almost destroyed
by developers in the early 1970s
In the early 1980s, this area was a bad crime spot
.
The Tides
- porthole windows,
abundant stainless steel,
ocean liner curves
.
Had a glass of Cava at The Tides's outside lounge
- lovely haven on the busy Ocean Drive
.
