Last day in Paris

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

Sunday was chilly but not rainy,
continued sightseeing in Paris.
Walked up to Mortmartre
.
Way up to Sacré-Coeur
. Sacré-Coeur
- construction work started in 1875,
completed in 1914
.
Could have bought a new bag...
.
Lots of tourists,
be aware of pick-pockets!
.
Details of Sacré-Coeur
.2 of the domes
.

View of Paris taken in the front of the basilika
. Place du Tertre
- all kind of artists & tourists, too
. Moulin de la Galette
- there used to be 30 windmills,
now only 2 are left
.
A street of Montmartre
.
Busy food market on rue Lepic
.
Had some drinks at Bar-Brasserie La Rimaudiere
on rue des Martyrs
- went to the toilet there,
well, it was just a hole in the floor....
.
Continued walking to Les Halles.
Had a lunch in a terrace of a cafe
- nice sunshine
Croquet monsier was heated in a micro
and the salad was floating in the dressing...
- had to have one bad food experience in Paris!
.

Pavillon des Arts
. Huge golden flower pot in the front of Centre Pompidou
- Centre Pompidou was opened in 1977
. Place Georges Pompidou
. An old building in Marais
.
Later in the afternoon took a taxi to the airport Charles de Gaulle,
terminal 2D
- arrived there absolutely too early
- thought there would have been plenty of shops
and restaurants, but nothing really
.
